The Barnes Foundation and Mural Arts Philadelphia have announced that voter registration is now open for the Let’s Connect exhibition. A participatory project engaging the city’s art community, Let’s Connect invited artists living or working in Philadelphia to create a new 8-by-10-inch work inspired by a painting or object in the Barnes collection. 864 artists registered to participate, and more than 300 artists submitted their collection-inspired work for a public display at the Barnes, which will be on view May 21–June 4, 2018.

This fall, the Barnes Foundation will present the US debut of a landmark exhibition exploring the significant yet under recognized contributions of Berthe Morisot (1841–1895), one of the founders of impressionism. The first monographic exhibition of the artist to be held in the US since 1987, Berthe Morisot: Woman Impressionist provides new insight into a defining chapter in art history and the opportunity to experience Morisot’s work in context of the Barnes’s unparalleled collection of impressionist, post-impressionist, and early modernist paintings.

The Barnes Foundation will kick off summer with Barnes on the Block, a day party that will connect and enliven the neighborhood. Taking place on Sunday, June 3, from 4–8 pm, Barnes on the Block will feature free admission to the Barnes collection and Let’s Connect Philly, plus indoor and outdoor activities—a dance party in the Barnes parking lot with music from DJ Rich Medina, food trucks, a local brewery, and more.

The Barnes Foundation and Indego bike share have announced that ten new bikes wrapped in paintings from the Barnes collection will be unveiled on Sunday, May 6, at the Barnes’s PECO Free First Sunday Family Day.

On March 4, the Barnes Foundation will launch PECO Free First Sunday Family Day, an evolution of its popular PECO Free First Sunday. The new program will offer easier access for familieswith priority entry for those with children under 18and new programming designed specifically for families.

The Barnes Foundation and Mural Arts Philadelphia announce a collaboration focused on Mural Arts’ Restorative Justice program. The program engages individuals who are incarcerated, on probation, or on work release and provides opportunities for these individuals to reconnect with society in productive ways through community engagement, skill-building, and collaborative mural projects.

Premiering May 6, 2018, at the Barnes—home to the world’s largest collection of paintings by Pierre-Auguste Renoir—is a major exhibition examining the artistic exchange between the renowned impressionist painter and his son, celebrated filmmaker Jean Renoir. Renoir: Father and Son/Painting and Cinema brings together over 120 works—including paintings, drawings, ceramics, films, costumes, photographs, and posters—for an illuminating exploration of Pierre-Auguste’s role in his son’s oeuvre and the relationship between painting and cinema.
