About the Class

Albert C. Barnes assembled a remarkable collection of African sculptures, which he displayed in cases to highlight their aesthetic qualities. This class will reconnect these objects with their original cultural meanings and uses while exploring the formal sophistication that Dr. Barnes so admired. We will also consider the impact of colonialism and imperialism on the dissemination and reception of African material culture. Using our state-of-the-art visual experience platform (VXP), students can zoom in on these objects, getting closer than ever before.

The class is online-only. More about online classes.
