About the Class

The art of Andrew Wyeth (1917–2009) is both widely loved and often misunderstood. His lifelong commitment to representing the environs of Chadds Ford, Pennsylvania, and Port Clyde, Maine, has had a profound impact on artists, filmmakers, and museumgoers around the world. However, his creative legacy is largely ignored within the history of modern and contemporary art, which is written from the perspective of New York City.

This course will explore some of Wyeth’s major works across the two artistic mediums for which he is best known—watercolor and egg tempera. There will be an emphasis on the relationships that connect him to a broader culture, from which he is too often divorced. Each session will include insights from Victoria Browning Wyeth, the artist’s granddaughter, who offers a thoughtful and engaging perspective on his work.

The class is online-only. More about online classes.
