About the Class
In celebration of the Philadelphia Flower Show, this workshop includes time in the Barnes galleries followed by an art-making session focused on gardens and flowers.
Artists and garden designers share a heightened perception of nature’s sensory qualities and a strong sense of place. During a morning session held in the collection, we will explore how painters convey this sensitivity in their artwork. In the afternoon, participants will make their own floral images or landscapes using techniques that require no prior drawing or printmaking experience. All necessary drawing and printmaking materials will be provided. If students have a preferred medium—such as watercolor, colored pencils, or pastels—that they would like to add to their drawn and printed images, they are welcome to bring it.
Materials and boxed lunch are included.
Barnes classes will:
- Sharpen your observational and critical thinking skills.
- Improve your ability to communicate about art.
- Deepen your appreciation for cultures and histories outside your own.
