About the Exhibition
From 1993 to 1995, while the Merion galleries were under renovation, selected paintings from the Barnes Foundation's collection went on an international tour. The exhibition introduced the Barnes collection to thousands of people around the world. Breaking attendance records at many of its venues, From Cézanne to Matisse: Great French Paintings from the Barnes Foundation was presented at the following venues:

The first scholarly publication on the Foundation and its holdings since the death of Dr. Albert Barnes in 1951, a catalogue titled Great French Paintings from the Barnes Foundation: Impressionist, Post-Impressionist, and Early Modern, accompanied the exhibition.
