About the Tour

In this tour, we’ll explore the simple, bucolic pleasures of Arcadia, a mythical realm where mankind lives in harmony with nature. Arcadia is idea firmly rooted in the classical tradition. In Greek mythology, it was a land of sensual delight home to shepherds and herdsmen who excelled in singing. During the 19th and early 20th centuries, a time of sweeping industrialization and urbanization, this dream found new currency in the imagination of modern artists who yearned for a return to nature. This exclusive online tour looks closely at works by Gauguin, Matisse, Picasso, and other painters inspired by Arcadian ideals.

Registrants will be emailed a link for the talk the day prior.
