Mina Porell: “Conserving Rousseau”
On-Site & Online Talk | Member Appreciation Days

Ahead of our fall 2025 exhibition Rousseau’s Secrets, the Barnes conservation team has undertaken an examination and analysis of the 18 paintings by Henri Rousseau in the collection. During her time at the Barnes, conservator Mina Porell completed extensive treatment of Scouts Attacked by a Tiger to consolidate unstable paint, remove mismatched retouching, and remove discolored and uneven varnish layers. The conservation work was completed with stunning results, and Scouts was reinstalled in early 2024. Members are invited to learn more about this process and the discoveries Porell made while studying the painting.
